To spice things up for today's reading, we thought it would be good to give our families and students a read on private schools separate from our previous two blog posts on public academic options.
For those that have not yet read our blog on The Different Types of Private Schools, here is a quick run-down.
Private schools are independently-run, governmental, and are privately funded.
According to Teach.com,
[Private schools] are not paid for by public tax dollars and are not subject to the regulations that govern public schools.
If you decided to give our aforementioned blog post a read, there are a variety of types of private schools that you can choose from:
Traditional private school
Boarding school
Charter school
Montessori school
Religious and cultural school
Waldorf school
#1. The Nueva School
Ranking supreme and number one for the San Francisco Bay Area private school, The Nueva School has been around since 1967. The private school began through the hard work of a Karen Stone McCown.
With 889 students currently enrolled, the student-teacher ratio is a remarkable five to one.

Parents looking to enroll their children at The Nueva School can find the school located in Hillsborough, California.
The Nueva School offers academic registration for the following grades:
Lower school (pre-K to fourth grade)
Middle school (fifth to eighth grade)
High school (ninth to twelfth grade)
Students of color constitute fifty-six percent of The Nueva School.
Students enrolled at this particular private school generally apply for colleges and universities such as Stanford, Brown, or the University of California - Berkeley.

The main appeal of the Upper Nueva School is the quality of education. A remarkably low teacher-to-student ratio ensures that each student receives a personalized, tailored, and accessible educational plan with a well-defined expectation of success. Beyond this, students have vast educational freedom. People have access to an extensive library, couches or isolated workspaces, and peer help. Outside of midterm and finals week, I complete my homework at school more often than not.
Parents and students looking to enroll in this private school should expect tuition to cost approximately between $28,000 to $47,000 depending on the student's grade.
The Nueva School offers financial aid of over $4.5 million annually for those that are looking to apply for special grants.
According to forty responses for the SAT, students receive an average of 1490 on their SAT exams. As for the ACT, students score an average of 34 - based off of 43 respondents.

#2. Head-Royce School
Following closely on Bay Area's top private schools is the Head-Royce School, located in Oakland, California.
Head-Royce School was founded in 1887 and presently employs 880 students with a student-teacher ratio of seven to one.
Students enrolled at Head-Royce School are particularly interested in applying for colleges like the University of California - Los Angeles, University of California - Berkeley, and the University of Southern California.
The Head-Royce School offers academic registration for the following grades:
Kindergarten to fifth grade
Sixth to eighth grade
Ninth to twelfth grade
Students of color represent fifty-four percent of the private school.
A recent review left five months ago on Niche revealed a parent's delight of a son attending the school:

Head-Royce School offers grants and financial aid as well, amounting over $5.9 million dollars from the 2019-2020 school year.
Students that attend Head-Royce School score an average SAT score of 1410 (based on 93 responses) and an average ACT test result of 34 (based on 37 responses).

#3. The Harker School
The Harker School is located in San Jose, California and currently educates 2,040 students.
Founded in 1893, the school has a K-12 student-teacher ratio of eleven to one.
Harker students typically are interested in applying for colleges and universities such as Stanford, University of California - Berkeley, and the University of California - Los Angeles.
The private school offers academic registration for the following:
Preschool
Lower school (kindergarten through grade five)
Middle school (grades six to eight)
Upper school (grades nine to twelve)

I had an amazing experience at The Harker School, partly due to my transformative athletic experience in the high school. Harker's athletic directors and coaches work hard to facilitate a high quality student-athlete experience, and they are constantly improving the facilities so that the available equipment is state-of-the-art. I am sure that the skills of time management and teamwork that I developed as an athlete bolstered my performance in the Harker classroom, and since I was studying so much, it was very healthy for me to be committed to a physical extracurricular activity through team sports. Similarly to other Bay Area private schools mentioned, The Harker School also offers financial assistance in their admissions process.
Students enrolled at The Harker School score an average SAT score of 1480 and an average ACT of 33, based on 273 responses for the SAT exam and 91 for the ACT.

#4. The Quarry Lane School
Parents can find The Quarry Lane School located in Dublin, California.
The private school was developed by founder and president Dr. Sabri Arac in 1991.
The total student population is 700, with a student-teacher ratio of seven to one. Over seventy percent of the teaching faculty at The Quarry Lane School hold advanced degrees (masters or doctorate).

#5. Bentley School
Last but certainly not least in Bay Area's top five private schools, we have Bentley School.
Bentley School is located in Oakland, California with 696 students and a student-teacher ratio of seven to one.
Founded in 1920, Bentley School offers education for the following grades:
Lower school (kindergarten through fifth grade)
Middle school (grades six to eight)
Upper school (grades nine to twelve)
Bentley students look at colleges such as the University of California - Los Angeles, University of Southern California, and the University of California - Berkeley.

Bentley school has given me access to some of the best teachers that I have had. Teachers are available to meet almost any time of the day, and the school has a specific time each week called flex that is specifically meant for academic enrichment. The teachers genuinely care about students and want each student to succeed.

Kindergarten to grade five: $31,015
