Explore the world of student research through 7EDU's Computational Biology Project

Class Time :
June 10 - August 13, 2026 | Wednesday and Thursday | 4:00-6:00PM PT
(online group meetings)

Grade Level :
G9-11

In this group research project:

  • Gain hands-on experience with biological data and AI tools

  • Collaborate with peers and mentors in a research environment

  • Develop a research paper and project demo suitable for science fairs or conference submissions

Course Plan (decide one of the following topics in the 1st class after discussion among students):

  1. Does AlphaFold Predict Disordered Proteins Worse Than Ordered Ones, And By How Much?

  2. Do Viruses That Infect Multiple Host Species Have More Disordered Proteins?

  3. Can an Algorithm Identify a Plant? Building a Simple Image-Based Leaf Classifier

  4. Reading Your Gut: Analyzing Public Microbiome Data to Compare Healthy vs. Unhealthy Diets

Weekly Milestones Include:

  • Literature review and project setup

  • Tool use (Python, ColabFold, CRISPR design tools, etc.)

  • Visuals (phylogenetic trees, protein structures, ML models)

  • Data collection and analysis

  • Discussion of results and real-world implications

  • Final research paper or demo presentation
